Title: PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike-Aligned Secretary Postpones NEC Meeting, Declares Deputy’s Notice Illegal Date Published: 25 May 2025 Description: The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist as Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, the National Secretary aligned with the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, formally announced the postponement of the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier scheduled for May 27, 2025.In an official letter dated May 21 and circulated to party leaders and NEC members, Anyanwu stated that the postponement is intended to allow the Sen. Bukola Saraki-led Reconciliation Committee complete its assignment aimed at resolving festering internal disputes within the party.“The postponement is to allow the Sen. Bukola Saraki\'s Reconciliation Committee complete its assignment of resolving some internal conflicts necessary to have a peaceful NEC Meeting,” the letter read. However, the announcement carried a strong rebuke against a parallel communication allegedly issued by the Deputy National Secretary, whom Anyanwu accused of posing as the Acting National Secretary.“Any notice of NEC meeting or publication signed by the Deputy National Secretary in the guise of Acting National Secretary is illegal, unauthorized and should be disregarded,” he stated firmly. This development underscores the widening rift within the PDP, which has become increasingly fractured between loyalists of Nyesom Wike and other power blocs within the party. While Anyanwu maintains his position as National Secretary—backed by a recent Supreme Court ruling—another faction of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) reportedly recognizes Ude Okoye as National Secretary. As at press time, Ude Okoye has yet to issue any official statement in response to the postponement or the ongoing leadership dispute.
