Title: NANS Demands Suspension of Dangote Trucks Over Fatal Accidents Date Published: 20 August 2025 Description: The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone B (South-South), has expressed outrage over the increasing number of fatal accidents involving Dangote trucks in the region, calling for the immediate grounding of the company’s vehicles pending a comprehensive safety review. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the student body described the recent incidents as “tragic and preventable.” The association cited two major accidents in Edo State: one on August 11, 2025, in which a student of Auchi Polytechnic, Mrs. Otabor Ruth Bodon, lost a leg and risked losing the other and another on August 18, 2025, where three people died instantly while two others sustained severe injuries. While acknowledging that the Dangote Group has taken responsibility for Mrs. Bodon’s treatment, NANS argued that no compensation could restore her lost leg or shattered dreams. “We cannot continue to watch the lives of our young stars and future leaders cut short,” the statement read.NANS accused the Dangote Group of employing untrained and unlicensed drivers, many of whom allegedly operate under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The group also faulted the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for negligence, alleging that road safety officers prioritize collecting tips from truck drivers over enforcing safety standards. The students outlined a series of demands which includes :1. The immediate suspension of Dangote trucks within seven days.2. Rigorous training, testing and licensing of all Dangote truck drivers under FRSC supervision.3. Mandatory drug testing of all drivers by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).4. An interface between NANS, Dangote Group and FRSC to address safety lapses. The association also recommended the installation of speed bumps near schools and U-turns, construction of pedestrian bridges in student communities and regular public safety audits by Dangote.Issuing a warning, NANS vowed to take drastic measures if their demands were ignored within a week. These measures include seizing Dangote trucks operating in the South-South and relocating the students’ secretariat to FRSC offices across the region.“We will not fold our hands while our members and the general public continue to die due to negligence and recklessness. If our demands are not met, no Dangote truck will be allowed to operate in our zone,” the statement emphasized. The press release was jointly signed by Amb. Emmanuel Iwara, Coordinator of NANS Zone B and Comr. Daniel Ndanebari, Secretary-General (Bayelsa State).  Attached Images: 7a8c299e41c6c705bedf76a08932b11ae12232ac732035e6613dee22cdab5a48.jpg, 02e56c363ce8c83cb01c55c545af9ee14ba0bf0964b484c967b980fb05c81eec.jpg, fdce6a9f3c6483407b0c4b2213fdf6aaebe3ad9d89e23e249afe8767f0b93257.jpg, 0a272c5f86995cf28f3b534b53d66427dbbe3de8647cd9c1f34de88b1e83c5cd.jpg Attached Video: None
