Chibuike Azubike, who allegedly paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” along with three accomplices, over a planned illegal installation ceremony.Azubike, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, was apprehended alongside Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41). The suspects are currently being held at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.According to police sources, intelligence reports revealed that the group had perfected plans to unveil a prototype of a ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. Acting on the tip-off, officers sealed off the venue to prevent what authorities described as a move capable of misleading the public and disturbing peace.The operation, which involved conventional police operatives, Eko Strike Force teams, and other tactical units, ensured the event was aborted before it could hold.Confirming the arrests, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned Lagos residents to be wary of impostors and fraudulent elements seeking to exploit cultural and traditional institutions for selfish purposes.“Such actions are unlawful, contrary to the statutes of Lagos State, and capable of breaching the peace of society,” Jimoh said, stressing that the Command will continue to deal decisively with anyone attempting to undermine legality, public order, or the integrity of the state.The police said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court once due processes are concluded.
