Title: PSC Subjects Over 400 Senior Police Officers to Promotion Examination, Emphasizes Merit and Character Date Published: 18 September 2025 Description: The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday, September 18, 2025, conducted promotion examinations for over 400 senior police officers drawn from across the federation, reaffirming its commitment to merit, competence, and character as criteria for career advancement in the Nigeria Police Force.The exercise, which took place under the supervision of Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary, and DIG (rtd.) Bar. Taiwo Lekanu, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Affairs, featured a written examination for officers seeking elevation to higher ranks.A total of 56 Chief Superintendents of Police were recommended for promotion to Assistant Commissioners of Police, while 451 Superintendents of Police were lined up for consideration to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.The Commission disclosed that henceforth, promotion examinations will be a mandatory prerequisite for officers aspiring to higher ranks, stressing that this reform is designed to ensure that officers are mentally prepared to tackle modern policing challenges in line with global best practices.Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are expected to face their own round of promotion examinations on Friday, September 19, 2025.Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd., mni), reiterated his vision for a more dynamic, efficient, and effective Nigeria Police Force, capable of safeguarding lives, property, and combating crime in a fast-evolving security landscape.
