Fubara Mourns Bayelsa Deputy Gov, Visits Diri In Yenagoa Date Published: 21 December 2025 Description: Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described the late Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as a man of exceptional calibre whose public service was defined by intellectual depth, humility and uncommon dedication.Governor Fubara stated this on Sunday when he led leaders from Rivers State on a condolence visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, following Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden death on December 11.The governor arrived in Yenagoa dressed in black native attire with a matching cap, symbolising mourning.Gov. Fubara described the passing of the deputy governor as a monumental loss, not only to Bayelsa State but also to Rivers State, noting that both states share deep historical, cultural and political ties.He said the loss had personally touched him, stressing that death remains an event beyond human control and is determined only by God, who gives and takes life.Governor Fubara assured the Bayelsa State Government of Rivers State’s readiness to support funeral arrangements for the late deputy governor.“Wherever you want us to come in, I want to assure you that we will give our support. We know that there is no word of condolence that can fill the void, but only God can comfort you,” Fubara said.He also assured the Ewhrudjakpo family of his government’s continued support during the period of grief and beyond.Responding, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, commended Governor Fubara for his show of empathy and solidarity, particularly for leading a high-powered Rivers State delegation to condole with him and the people of Bayelsa over the painful loss.Governor Diri said he was still in shock over the death of his deputy but had surrendered to the will of God, noting that only the Almighty gives and takes life. Both governors later visited the widow of the late deputy governor, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, at the official residence to personally commiserate with the family.Meanwhile, on his way to Bayelsa State, Governor Fubara made a stopover at Elele to attend a thanksgiving service organised by Sir Eze Mike Elechi and his family at St. James Anglican Church, in gratitude to God for His benevolence to the family.
