Title: Wike Attacks APC Leaders, Faults Rivers Assembly Over ₦600bn Disclosure Date Published: 29 December 2025 Description: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as political opportunists who, he said, are only interested in exploiting Rivers State’s resources.Wike spoke while reacting to the disclosure by the Rivers State House of Assembly that over ₦600 billion was allegedly left in the state’s coffers by the Sole Administrator during the period of emergency rule. The former Rivers State Governor faulted the lawmakers for what he described as an ill-advised and reckless disclosure, warning that it had exposed the state to political jobbers and fortune seekers.According to him, the public revelation had painted Rivers State as a soft target for politicians whose primary motivation is access to money rather than service to the people.Wike said many Nigerian politicians only show interest in states perceived to be financially buoyant, noting that such individuals thrive on influence, misinformation and access to power. He alleged that several political “419 operators” are based in Abuja, constantly monitoring developments in states they consider cash-rich, waiting for opportunities to move in and exploit the system.“They are after Rivers money,” the minister said, warning that such actors do not contribute to development but feed off government resources.Wike stressed that the figure disclosed by the Assembly was inaccurate and should not have been made public, insisting that sensitive financial matters require discretion and responsibility. He made the remarks on Saturday, December 27, 2025, during a visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly, where he cautioned lawmakers against actions capable of exposing the state to external pressure and manipulation. He said transparency in governance must be balanced with wisdom, warning that careless statements could weaken the state and attract unnecessary political interference.Meanwhile, political activities in Rivers State have intensified following the governor’s defection to the APC, with several top party officials visiting the state in recent weeks.Among those who have visited are the APC National Chairman, the National Secretary, the Minister of Aviation, the National Security Adviser, as well as other senior party figures.Separately, Wike also warned politicians he described as “emergency supporters” of President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State to respect existing political agreements.Speaking on Sunday while addressing stakeholders in Emohua Local Government Area, the minister said political loyalty should not be opportunistic, stressing that agreements reached when times were tough must be honoured.“In Rivers, agreement is agreement. Becoming an emergency singer of ‘on your mandate’ will not help anyone,” Wike said.He urged political leaders in the state to remain vigilant and united, warning that Rivers State must not be turned into a feeding ground for political scavengers.
