Title: Wike Says PDP, APC Don’t Exist in Rivers Date Published: 30 December 2025 Description: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the two dominant political parties in Nigeria—the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC)—have effectively lost relevance in Rivers State, insisting that political loyalty in the state now transcends party platforms.Wike made the assertion on Sunday during a visit to Ikwerre Local Government Area, where he was received by a jubilant crowd chanting, “No Wike, no Rivers State.” Addressing supporters, the former Rivers governor said political realities on the ground had rendered party labels meaningless. “If you are pursuing Wike, you’ll miss the road. There is nothing like PDP or APC in Rivers State,” he declared. “Every week I will be coming to Rivers State. Abuja is not my place; it’s where I work. Home is here.”Although Wike remains a member of the PDP, his comments come at a time when the party is deeply enmeshed in a prolonged and bitter internal crisis. The once-dominant PDP structure has fractured into rival factions following the collapse of the political alliance amongst its leaders, a crisis that has left the party weakened and internally divided. The political temperature rose further on Monday in Omuma Local Government Area, where the FCT minister declared his intention to begin active politicking in the State. Speaking at a grand reception and thanksgiving ceremony, Wike announced his intention to return fully to grassroots politics from January, signalling a renewed struggle for political control of the oil-rich state ahead of the 2027 general elections.“I want to put you on notice so you won’t be surprised,” Wike told supporters. “By the grace of God, we will start politics in January.” In Omuma, Wike framed the crisis less as a struggle for power and more as a question of trust and honour. Without mentioning Governor Fubara by name, he said leadership failure begins with broken agreements. “If you enter an agreement, whether written or verbal, as a gentleman you must keep to that agreement,” he said.He added that achievements in office meant little without personal integrity. “No matter the flyovers we build in Abuja, if I cannot be trusted, then I have failed,” Wike told the crowd, drawing loud applause.Political actors at the event also signalled a realignment of local power. Former House of Representatives member Kechi Nwogu claimed that Omuma’s political structure had shifted decisively in Wike’s favour. “All the councillors have defected, all the assembly members are here,” she said, adding that the local government would no longer support the sitting governor. As Rivers State edges closer to the 2027 elections, Wike’s blunt rhetoric and renewed political mobilisation point to an intense contest ahead. Closing his address, the FCT minister issued a warning to rivals across party lines. “Power is not for dash,” he said. “We won’t dash power again. You must work for it.” Attached Images: 35483bc83a9e82d49c01cf3cc81ddc2f0f938af7a0be4b82998362d923a0a232.png Attached Video: None
