Title: Tinubu Calls for Peaceful Conduct in FCT, Rivers and Kano Elections Date Published: 21 February 2026 Description: President Bola Tinubu has called on voters, security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to act with restraint and responsibility during Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers State and Kano State.The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.INEC is set to conduct Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, alongside by-elections in Rivers State and Kano State.The affected constituencies include Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers State, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo in Kano State.President Tinubu urged eligible voters to come out peacefully and exercise their civic responsibilities without fear or intimidation.According to him, the democratic process flourishes best in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance and mutual respect.He also appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence, hate speech and other inflammatory actions that could undermine the credibility of the polls.The President cautioned security agencies against acts of high-handedness, intimidation or any conduct capable of eroding public confidence in the electoral process, stressing that their duty was to safeguard lives, property and the sanctity of the ballot.Tinubu further urged INEC to ensure efficient voter accreditation, seamless voting, accurate collation and the prompt transmission of results in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting institutions charged with the responsibility of conducting free, fair and credible elections.The President expressed confidence that the polls would reflect the genuine will of the people and further strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.
