Title: Airstrikes Kill Top ISWAP Commanders in Sambisa, Deal Major Blow to Terror Network Date Published: 01 March 2026 Description: The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralised two senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and several other fighters during a precision air interdiction mission in the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa general area of Borno State.Security sources confirmed that the early morning strike eliminated ISWAP commanders identified as Saddam and Saleh Garin Kago, alongside other key operatives, including Hussaini Ubaida and Ba Alayi Benbem. The operation also destroyed terrorist command centres and logistics warehouses hidden within the area.According to the sources, the mission was carried out at about 6:08 a.m. on Friday after confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) revealed structures being used as command hideouts and storage facilities by the terrorists.“Following confirmation of the targets, multiple aircraft and platforms were deployed to prosecute the mission,” one of the sources said. “On arrival at the objective area, the aircraft acquired and engaged the selected targets with precision-guided munitions.”Post-strike battle damage assessments indicated that the command hubs and logistics warehouses were effectively destroyed, significantly degrading the operational capacity of the terrorists operating within the Sambisa Forest corridor. The sources added that efforts were ongoing to verify the identities of other terrorists who may have been killed in the strike.Meanwhile, the military high command of Operation Hadin Kai has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist leadership structures, disrupting supply chains and denying insurgents safe havens. It stressed that the Theatre Command would continue to work closely with the Air Component and other security agencies to intensify operations, consolidate recent gains and restore lasting peace to the North-East.
