Title: PDP Drifting Toward Political Irrelevance, Lagos APC Claims Date Published: 13 March 2026 Description: The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has said the Peoples Democratic Party is gradually losing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape, blaming the development on persistent internal crises and lack of clear ideological direction. The party’s spokesperson in the state, Seye Oladejo, made the assertion in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the opposition party appears to be heading toward what he described as its “political expiration.”Oladejo said leadership disputes, internal divisions and the absence of a coherent vision have weakened the PDP over the years, reducing what was once regarded as a dominant national political platform to a shadow of its former self.“The Lagos State chapter of the APC observes, with a mixture of concern and inevitability, the steady descent of the PDP into political irrelevance across the country,” he said. “What was once presented as a national platform with lofty promises now seems to be counting down to its own expiration.”He further stated that the internal crisis rocking the PDP was the result of years of political arrogance and poor leadership culture, adding that the party has failed to learn from its past challenges.Oladejo also criticised the period when the PDP governed Nigeria, describing it as a difficult era that many citizens would rather forget. According to him, the alleged mismanagement during those years left the country with institutional and economic challenges that are still being addressed. The APC spokesman said the PDP’s influence in Lagos has continued to decline, noting that residents of the state have consistently shown support for the ruling party’s governance approach. He added that while democracy thrives on responsible opposition, the PDP has struggled to effectively play that role, instead remaining entangled in internal conflicts.Oladejo maintained that the APC would remain focused on governance, strengthening democratic institutions and implementing policies aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
