Title: Nigeria Police Force Arrests Two Nigeria Customs Service Officers Over Driver’s Killing in Osogbo Date Published: 16 March 2026 Description: The Nigeria Police Force in Osun State has arrested two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in connection with the fatal shooting of a driver in Osogbo, the state capital.The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday around the Dada Estate area of the city during an operation involving suspected smuggled vehicles.In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abiodun Ojelabi, the arrested officers were identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel.According to the police, the Customs officers were allegedly chasing vehicles suspected to be tokunbo (foreign-used) cars when the shooting incident occurred.Police operatives were said to have swiftly responded after receiving a report of the incident and subsequently apprehended the two officers.The victim, who was driving an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla believed to be among the vehicles being pursued, was shot during the operation.He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.The police said the identity of the deceased had yet to be established, while his body had been deposited in a morgue.Items recovered from the scene included a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one expanded 9mm shell.Also recovered were two vehicles — a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AAA 400 GQ and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982.The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody.Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.The command assured the public that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law.Residents were also urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.Earlier reports indicated that the victim was allegedly shot along the Osogbo–Iwo Road near the Onibueja area in Ido-Osun at about 10 a.m.A resident who witnessed the incident said the victim was driving from the Iwo end of the road towards Osogbo when security operatives in plain clothes reportedly opened fire on the vehicle.According to the witness, the driver died instantly behind the wheel as the vehicle was riddled with bullets, drawing residents to the scene.Police authorities later confirmed that the suspected shooters were Customs officers who have since been taken into custody.
