Title: Nigeria, UK Seal Three Key Deals on Migration, Security and Business Mobility Date Published: 19 March 2026 Description: The Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in migration management, border security and business mobility. The agreements, signed in the UK by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, cover a migration partnership framework, joint efforts to tackle organised immigration crime, and a statement of intent to expand business visa access for UK companies operating in Nigeria. In a statement issued by his media aide, Babatunde Alao, the minister said the agreements reflect Nigeria’s commitment to a transparent and structured migration system aligned with national and international obligations. He noted that both countries share a common goal of promoting safe, orderly and mutually beneficial migration, while ensuring that criminal activities linked to irregular migration are effectively addressed.Tunji-Ojo also highlighted the importance of the visa agreement, describing it as a catalyst for economic growth and improved business relations. He said the Federal Government, under Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to removing barriers that hinder trade and investment, adding that Nigeria is open to expanded economic opportunities and deeper cooperation with the UK.On her part, UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, described Nigeria as a leading partner in bilateral relations, noting that the extensive nature of the agreements reflects a shared vision for stronger collaboration. Similarly, UK Trade Envoy, Florence Eshalomi, said the expanded business visa scheme would enhance economic ties and facilitate easier movement for legitimate business travellers between both countries. The migration partnership agreement establishes a framework for regulated migration with full respect for human rights, while the border security deal outlines a three-year plan between the UK Home Office and Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior to combat organised immigration crime. The business visa initiative, meanwhile, is expected to ease access for credible UK firms with verified interests in Nigeria, mirroring similar arrangements already in place for Nigerian companies in the UK.
