Title: Plateau Police Clamp Down on Night Activities After Fresh Killings Date Published: 05 April 2026 Description: The Plateau State Police Command has imposed fresh security restrictions, including a ban on night grazing and mining, following renewed attacks that claimed lives in parts of the state. The move comes as the police launched a manhunt for unidentified gunmen who ambushed a group of miners in Chwel Nyango community, located in Jos South Local Government Area, killing three persons and leaving one other injured.According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the Command received a distress call at about 9:20 p.m. on Friday and immediately dispatched a patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Bukuru, to the scene. The injured victim was swiftly evacuated to a nearby hospital and is currently responding to treatment.Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Bassey Ewah, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the affected community, describing the attack as a senseless act of violence. As part of measures to forestall further breakdown of law and order, the police boss ordered the immediate enforcement of a statewide ban on night grazing and night mining activities. He also reaffirmed that the existing prohibition on commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis remains in effect, stressing that the directive is aimed at strengthening security rather than undermining lawful livelihoods. In addition, the Command announced a temporary ban on the operations of commercial tricycles, popularly known as “Keke-Napep,” as part of security arrangements for the Easter period.Residents have been urged to comply fully with the directives and limit unnecessary movements, particularly at night, while security presence has been intensified in vulnerable areas. The police further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.Meanwhile, in a related development, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has conducted the burial of four victims killed in a separate attack in Anguwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area. The victims were among 28 persons reportedly killed when gunmen attacked the area last Sunday night, sparking tension and prompting the state government to impose a 48-hour curfew. The funeral prayers, led by the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Ghazali Ismaila Adam, were held at the Babale Burial Cemetery under controlled conditions to prevent further unrest. The cleric urged the affected families to remain patient and cautioned against inflammatory statements that could heighten tensions, stressing the need for peace.Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in a recent address, appealed for calm and reassured residents that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
