In a dramatic political twist, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pitched his tent with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was confirmed on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba. According to insiders, the move followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the interest of the state\'s long-term development.
Governor Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 governorship election under the PDP, was received into the APC fold by senior party leaders in what many are already calling a masterstroke ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with Vanguard, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the defection, signaling a major shake-up in Delta\'s political landscape.
Analysts say this realignment could trigger ripple effects across the South-South region as the APC gains a fresh foothold in a traditionally PDP stronghold.
