Accuse Gov. Lawal of Inaction, Say Situation Has Deteriorated Beyond Control

Following another wave of deadly attacks by suspected bandits in Zamfara State, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently declare a state of emergency in the troubled North-West state, citing a total breakdown of law and order.

In a strongly worded statement on Monday, AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima, described the security situation in Zamfara as \"unbearable\" and accused the state government of lacking the capacity and will to tackle the menace.

“The governor’s inaction, indifference, and total lack of concern for the plight of citizens have allowed these criminals to grow more emboldened,” Shettima said. “Instead of facing the challenge head-on, he has chosen to fold his arms while lives are wasted daily.”

The group maintained that despite earlier military gains in the fight against banditry, the situation in Zamfara has taken a dangerous turn, with armed groups launching daring attacks on civilians, razing communities, and displacing thousands.

“The people of Zamfara are in desperate need of federal intervention,” the statement read. “A state of emergency is the only viable option left to mobilise national resources, restore order, and hold those responsible for these lapses accountable.”

AYCF said the rising insecurity has created a climate of fear and despair, and that only strong, immediate action from the presidency can reverse the trend and restore public confidence.

They called on President Tinubu to act swiftly in the interest of national security and the fundamental right of Zamfara citizens to life and safety.

“The time for decisive action is now. The people of Zamfara deserve better,” Shettima concluded. “We stand with them in their demand for safety, justice, and peace.”
