Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to facilitate the release of businesswoman Aisha Achimugu on the bail conditions earlier granted by the Commission.

The directive was issued during proceedings on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, following the revocation of her initial bail to her lawyer and the introduction of new bail terms by the EFCC.

Achimugu, who is under investigation for alleged conspiracy, money laundering, obtaining by false pretence, corruption, and possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime, was arrested on Tuesday, April 29, and brought before the court the following day.

During the hearing, her counsel, Kehinde Oguwumiju, SAN, sought a variation of the revised bail conditions. However, the application faced stiff opposition from the EFCC’s counsel, E.E. Iheanacho, SAN, and was subsequently withdrawn after the court refused to entertain it.

In his brief ruling, Justice Ekwo directed the EFCC to hasten the processing of all bail requirements and mandated all parties involved to return to court with an update on compliance by Friday, May 2, 2025.
