Controversial social media influencer, VeryDarkMan, has landed in police custody—this time, not for his hot takes but for calling out GTBank.

According to his lawyer, Barr. Deji Adeyanju, the internet personality was arrested in Abuja on Friday by the Nigerian Police on the orders of Guaranty Trust Bank. His crime? Daring to speak up about unauthorised deductions from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she allegedly never took.

Before his arrest, VeryDarkMan had taken to his social media platforms to expose what he called “constant debit alerts in the name of loan repayments”—some running into several deductions this year alone. He even visited a GTBank branch with his mother to demand explanations and get her account statement.

“We have requested her bank statements so we know when the debiting started,” he posted. “So far, in this year alone, there have been more than seven debits.”

While GTBank is yet to issue an official statement, Adeyanju insists this is pure intimidation: “His only offence was speaking out.”
