INEC Publishes Final List of Candidates for 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, Campaigns to Begin June 11
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final list of candidates for the highly anticipated 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In a press release signed by Sam Olumekun mni, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC confirmed that 16 political parties met the submission deadline of May 12, 2025, by uploading the personal particulars of their candidates.
Following the window for substitution, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted a fresh primary to replace its governorship candidate, while Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) replaced their deputy governorship candidates.
Among the key highlights, two female candidates from AAC and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) will be contesting for the top office, while six parties have nominated female running mates. These include APC, Accord, LP, ZLP, Boot Party (BP), and APP. However, no candidate with disability was nominated by any party. The age of the candidates ranges between 36 and 71 years.
With the release of the final list, INEC clarified that no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be permitted, except in the case of death before Election Day.
Campaigns Begin June 11
INEC also announced that, in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, official campaigns will commence on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and end at midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
The Commission emphasized that political campaigns must be conducted within the framework of the law, warning against the use of abusive language, physical violence, and destruction of campaign materials. INEC further reminded all parties and candidates of their right to equal access to public facilities, and warned against the abuse of incumbency, which is prohibited by Section 95(2) of the Electoral Act.

INEC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to a free, fair, and credible electoral process in Anambra State.
