As Sallah draw near the price of ram have skyrocket in Nigeria due to the ban in the movement of herds men from Niger.

The ban and the Sallah festival made rams a luxury that many could no longer afford. A big ram sells for an average of N700,000 as against N350,000 early this year, indicating a 100 percent price rise on a year-to-date basis.

In Nigeria the Prices of rams have surged by 100% nationwide ahead of Eid-el-Kabir, with traders blaming Niger’s livestock export ban and high demand. A large ram now costs  ₦700,000 up from what was obtainable in January. Meanwhile smaller ones sell for ₦250,000  compare to previously ₦165,000. Nigeria’s reliance on imports from Niger, Mali, and Chad due to local insecurity has worsened the shortage as demand rise\'s.
