Delta State House Of Assembly Moves to Regulate Soaring House Rents Across Major Cities

In response to rising public outcry over exorbitant housing costs, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has announced plans to introduce a bill aimed at regulating house rents across key urban centers in the state.

The announcement was made during a press briefing marking the second anniversary of the 8th Assembly, where Guwor emphasized the need to make housing more affordable for low and middle-income earners in areas such as Asaba, Warri, Sapele, and Ughelli.

“We’ve received numerous complaints from residents struggling with skyrocketing rent prices,” Guwor stated. “This bill is a proactive step toward ensuring that housing remains accessible to the average Deltan.”

 

The proposed legislation, he added, would set fair rental standards and provide a legal framework to address exploitative rental practices.

The move is already generating buzz among residents and housing advocates, who see it as a long-overdue intervention to curb urban housing stress.
