The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a strong statement condemning Israel’s recent preemptive strike on Iran, which has triggered a wave of retaliatory missile and aerial exchanges between the two countries. The government expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict and warned of its potential to destabilize the broader Middle East and disrupt global peace.
In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged both Israel and Iran to exercise \"utmost restraint.\"
“The continued cycle of retaliation not only endangers civilian lives but threatens to plunge the broader Middle East into further instability, with implications for international security and economic development,” the statement read.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, non-aggression, and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria urged both parties to prioritize dialogue over confrontation and called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to step in and facilitate urgent de-escalation.
“Military action is not a substitute for negotiation. The path to lasting peace lies in diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law,” the statement emphasized.
The Nigerian government also expressed its readiness to support genuine peace efforts and diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis and preventing further bloodshed.
The conflict between Iran and Israel has drawn global attention amid rising fears of a broader regional war. Civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, and widespread disruption have already been reported, prompting urgent calls for calm from multiple international actors.
