In response to the renewed wave of deadly reprisal attacks in Benue State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a fresh directive to Nigeria’s security chiefs to immediately implement earlier orders aimed at restoring peace and security in the troubled region.
Describing the continued bloodshed as “inhuman and anti-progress,” President Tinubu ordered the military, police, and intelligence agencies to take decisive action to halt the violence. Security operatives have since arrived in Benue State to coordinate direct operations and stabilize affected areas.
“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough,” the President said in a strongly worded statement.
He emphasized that perpetrators on all sides must be arrested and prosecuted without delay, as a matter of national urgency and justice.
The President also tasked Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, with leading a robust reconciliation process among warring parties—especially between farmers, herders, and host communities. He urged the governor to act as a statesman and convene peace talks that foster lasting unity.
President Tinubu warned political and community leaders to desist from making inflammatory statements that risk worsening tensions. He called for restraint, responsibility, and a collective resolve to pursue peace with fairness and justice.
“This is the time for Governor Alia to act… Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders across divides work together in harmony,” he added.
The Federal Government’s renewed intervention comes amid rising national concern over the persistent violence in Benue, which has led to the deaths of hundreds in recent years due to clashes over land, grazing rights, and ethnic divisions.
