Ahead of the December 15 deadline for the party primary for the 2026 governorship poll, former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, has assured that the All Progressives Congress would manage the struggle for its ticket without any backlash.
Owoeye spoke in Osogbo on Tuesday at the launch of AMBO Youth Assembly, a group of youth drawn from all the wards in the state to canvass support for the governorship aspiration of the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, in the next governorship poll.
The APC chieftain, who said all aspirants in the race for the party’s ticket are preparing for the primary, noted that elders of the national ruling party would join forces to manage issues that may come up to ensure cohesion.
“Everyone contesting is preparing for the party primaries. There is no doubt that it is one of the prerequisites for any aspirant to become a candidate.
“As a party man myself, I believe party primaries need not cause rancor among the aspirants because when more than one person is contesting for a position, definitely one person would be chosen.
“Others will have to support the person. So, I believe that there will be no rancor among the aspirants after the primary and if there will be any, the party leaders will know how to settle the rift,” Owoeye added.
Commenting on the significance of the youth group, Owoeye said it was clear that Oyebamiji was connecting with the grassroots, with the various groups coming up to support its aspiration.
He said, “Looking at it from the Ambo Women Assembly, Ambo stakeholders, and the Ambo Youth Assembly, it means that Bola Oyebamiji remains the only aspirant to beat and I want to tell the entire world that the way we are putting together the campaign for him is a way to tell the entire world that he is taking over Osun in 2026, there is no controversy.”
