In a major step toward reforming healthcare delivery, Governor Alex Otti has approved the constitution of the Board for the Abia State Medicines and Commodities Management Agency (ASMCMA).
The board, made up of top-tier professionals in health, pharmacy, and public service, is tasked with overseeing the strategic management, procurement, and distribution of essential medicines and health commodities across Abia State\'s public health institutions.
Leading the board is Chief Victor Amuta, FPSN, a respected pharmacist with over 48 years of experience in public health. Other members include Dr. (Mrs.) Katlyn Ukpabi, Sir Ucheoma Madumere, Dr. Akara Emmanuel Ugochukwu, and Mr. Chris Ukah, representing the state’s three senatorial zones and communities.
Statutory members from the Ministry of Health, NMA, PSN, and Ministry of Finance are also part of the board, ensuring cross-sectoral representation and expertise. The Executive Secretary, Pharm. Nnaemeka Kanu Orji, will serve as Board Secretary.
The Otti administration says the board will help build a transparent, reliable, and efficient supply chain system for medical commodities, ultimately boosting healthcare quality for all Abians.
