In a major nationwide crackdown on crime, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a string of high-impact operations that led to the rescue of a 4-year-old kidnapped girl in Katsina, the bust of a fake kidnapping ring, the arrest of seven fraud suspects in Jigawa, and the capture of Lagos’ most notorious killer, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso.

The Katsina State Police Command has rescued a 4-year-old girl who was reported kidnapped alongside her 14-year-old sister. Shockingly, after four months of investigation, the older sister resurfaced and confessed to staging her own abduction and conspiring with three accomplices aged 25, 19, and 16. All suspects have been arrested, and the younger child was safely reunited with her family.
Jigawa: Fake Dollar Syndicate Busted
In another sting operation in Jigawa State, a joint security task force raided Kankare and Zurkuda villages in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area on June 13. The operation led to the arrest of seven suspected fraudsters involved in high-level financial crimes.
Recovered items included:
● $46,100 in counterfeit US currency
● 4 POS machines
● 13 Android smartphones
● 29 keypad phones
● 6 power banks
● 2 vehicle number plates
● Multiple documents linked to electronic fraud
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.
Nasarawa: Arms Smuggler Escapes, Rifle Recovered
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 45 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition after a suspected arms trafficker abandoned his unregistered motorcycle and fled into a bush along the Giza–Kadarko road in Keana LGA. A manhunt is ongoing.
Lagos: Police Arrest Most Wanted Assassin \'Olori Eso\' in Major Security Breakthrough
In what is being described as the biggest breakthrough in Lagos State’s recent crime-fighting history, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested 44-year-old Wasiu Akinwande, aka Olori Eso, a notorious hired assassin, cult leader, and gang commander behind a reign of terror in Mushin and its environs for over a decade.
Akinwande was nabbed in Agbado, Ogun State, during a special tactical operation codenamed \"Silence, Speed and Surprise.\" He had been on the run since 2009 and was linked to dozens of murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related killings.
A raid on his Mushin residence led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and other dangerous materials, including:
● 2 AK-47 rifles
● 1 K2 assault rifle
● 1 Red Ryder rifle
● 3 pump-action shotguns
● 2 locally made pistols
● 5 magazines
● 57 live cartridges
● 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
● 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition
● 1 expended 5.56mm round
● 1 dagger
● 3 walkie-talkies
● 9 international passports belonging to different individuals
According to the Lagos Police Command, four families have already identified Akinwande as the killer of their children, as police continue tracking other members of his syndicate.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the bravery of the officers involved and assured Lagosians that the fight against violent crime remains a top priority. \"Lagos must be a no-go area for criminals. We will not stop until every suspect linked to this gang is brought to justice,” he said.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to crime prevention and public safety. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help build a safer society.
The police force says it remains focused on intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks and restore law and order nationwide.
