The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 16, 2025, for bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states, involving over 3.5 million voters. However, polls will not hold in Khana II (Rivers) and Talata Mafara South (Zamfara) due to security and legal issues.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, also announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). In Anambra State, CVR will run from July 8–17, 2025, ahead of the governorship election, while nationwide online registration resumes August 18, with physical registration from August 25.
Party primaries are slated for July 17–21, with campaigns running August 2–14.
IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, urged political actors to respect electoral rules and backed INEC’s use of AI for better transparency. He also praised the construction of INEC’s new HQ annex as a boost to operational efficiency.
