The funeral of late Nigerian business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has been postponed due to international logistical protocols, the Federal Government has confirmed.
Dantata, who passed away on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates, was scheduled to be buried in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, in accordance with Islamic rites. However, the delay in the arrival of his remains in Saudi Arabia has caused a hold-up in the burial plans.
Speaking to the BBC on Monday, Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, explained that the postponement is due to regulatory requirements by Saudi authorities on repatriating a body for burial.
“There are regulations set by the Saudi government on how to bring a body for burial in the country. So now, the paperwork is being filled out between the Saudi government and the family of the deceased,” the Minister said.
He further disclosed that the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia is working closely with the bereaved family to ensure a smooth process. All funeral arrangements have been finalized, and the family is now awaiting the necessary clearances for the body to be moved from the UAE to Saudi Arabia.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a respected industrialist and philanthropist, was one of Nigeria’s most influential figures in commerce and community development.
