The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has been celebrated by the management and staff of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) following his landmark election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.
At a special reception held on July 1, 2025, at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, top customs officials lauded Adeniyi’s visionary leadership and applauded the global recognition it has brought to the Service and Nigeria.
Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Mohammed Jibo, described Adeniyi as a dynamic and capable leader who has become a symbol of excellence for the Service and the nation. “You’re not just representing the organisation but the country as a whole. We’re proud of your accomplishment,” he said.
Other senior officers, including DCG Greg Itotoh (Human Resource Development) and DCG Beatrice Nwafor (Excise, Free Trade Zone and Industrial Incentives), praised the CGC’s reform-driven agenda and international diplomacy, which they say have repositioned the NCS for global relevance.
Responding to the outpouring of goodwill, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude to his colleagues, attributing the achievement to their collective efforts. He reaffirmed his commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in customs innovation and governance, stating:
“The world will see Nigeria as providing meaningful leadership for the World Customs Community. We must be a model Customs Administration.”
