Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has once again made it clear that he doesn’t need more than four years to turn things around in Nigeria—if given the chance to lead.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Obi said the country’s problems are urgent and fixable, but only with the right kind of leadership. He believes that just as Nigeria has been seriously damaged in the past two years, those same two years are enough to begin real recovery.

“I don’t need a day more than four years. I’ll show the direction of good governance,” he said during the live interview. “In two years, there’s been maximum damage, which means in two years, there can be solutions.”

The former Anambra State governor—who is widely respected for his careful spending and people-first approach—did not mince words about the current state of governance in the country. He pointed out that what Nigeria is lacking most today isn’t resources or ideas, but leadership with heart.

“Nigerians need a leader with compassion. Today, we lack a leader that has compassion,” Obi said firmly.

His comments come at a time when political coalitions are forming and conversations about the 2027 elections are already heating up. Though he hasn’t officially declared his intention to run again, Obi’s frequent public appearances and involvement with the ADC-led coalition suggest he’s still very much in the game.

Online, his words have sparked plenty of reactions, especially among young Nigerians and civil society groups who continue to see him as a rare voice of accountability and hope.
