There is growing uncertainty over the authentic leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, as two individuals, Leader Sampson and Odey Lawrence, lay claim to the position of state chairman.
While the party’s state spokesman, Luckyman Igali, insists that Leader Sampson remains the duly recognized chairman, a document allegedly from the national leadership lists Odey Lawrence as chairman. Igali clarified that Lawrence was only acting chairman during a period of internal legal disputes.
However, Lawrence maintains he is still in charge pending a proper congress. Meanwhile, a court document seen by our correspondent reveals a settlement agreement reinstating several chairmen — including Leader Sampson.
The party says it is not divided, and a meeting of South-South ADC stakeholders is expected soon to resolve the leadership crisis and unify ranks.
