The Obidient Movement has condemned what it describes as a \"dangerous and unconstitutional\" statement allegedly made by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, warning former presidential candidate Peter Obi not to visit the state without prior notice.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Nana Kazaure, the Movement described the governor’s reported remarks as a direct threat to national unity and a violation of the constitutional rights of a Nigerian citizen.

The group referenced a viral video in which Governor Okpebholo purportedly issued the warning, expressing alarm that such rhetoric was being directed at a political figure known for his humanitarian visits across the country.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees the right of every Nigerian to move freely and reside in any part of the country,” the statement said. “It is disturbing and constitutionally indefensible for Governor Okpebholo to threaten or seek to restrict this right.”

The Obidient Movement further noted that this is not the first time such a threat has been made against Mr. Obi. A similar incident involving the Governor of Benue State was cited, with both occurrences reportedly happening during Mr. Obi’s charity missions to communities affected by hardship.

“We wish to alert Nigerians and the international community that these threats should not be taken lightly,” the statement warned. “Should anything untoward happen to Mr. Obi, Nigerians should know where to look.”

Calling for restraint, the group urged Nigerians to reject political intolerance and inflammatory rhetoric, warning that such behavior threatens the country’s fragile unity.
