British Conservative MP and UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Kemi Badenoch, has criticised Nigeria’s citizenship laws, calling them discriminatory against women.
Speaking in a recent interview, Badenoch, who was born in the UK to Nigerian parents, said it is \"virtually impossible\" to obtain Nigerian citizenship, especially for the children of Nigerian women married to non-Nigerians.
“I had that citizenship by virtue of my parents; I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman,” she said, highlighting the gender-based limitations embedded in the current legal framework.
