President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
Mr. Adeniyi, whose current tenure was scheduled to expire on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office for an additional year, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
The Presidency said the extension is aimed at allowing the Customs boss to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key national initiatives under the Tinubu administration. These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the fulfillment of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
President Tinubu commended Mr. Adeniyi for his steadfast leadership and dedication to service, expressing confidence that the extension will enhance the Customs Service’s ability to meet its core objectives—trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
