Couple Jailed 22 Years as NDLEA Records Landmark Drug Convictions, Multi-Billion Naira Forfeitures

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured multiple convictions and major asset forfeitures across Nigeria, marking significant victories in its anti-narcotics campaign.

A Lagos-based couple, Ajah Johnson Uchenna and Rosemary Uchenna, were sentenced to a combined 22.5 years in prison for trafficking over 400kg of cannabis. Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed down the judgment, which also included the forfeiture of ₦3.4 million in drug proceeds.

In separate convictions, an Indian national, Neetu Neetu, received a 10-year sentence in Kano for importing 11kg of heroin disguised as chocolate bars. Angolan businessman Mbala Dajou Abuba was jailed five years for attempting to smuggle 1.8kg of cocaine to Turkey, while Eze Christian Ikenna was sentenced to six years in Enugu for concealing cocaine in herbal tea sachets.

In Lagos, the NDLEA secured the final forfeiture of a multi-billion naira, 80-room hotel in Victoria Island linked to a drug cartel. The operation yielded 417.3kg of Canadian Loud cannabis valued at over ₦1 billion, along with luxury vehicles and electronics.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), hailed the developments as a strong warning to drug syndicates, reaffirming the agency\'s resolve to rid Nigeria of narcotics.
