The President also ordered the prompt implementation of long-overdue pension increases and a minimum pension guarantee to serve as a safety net for the most vulnerable pensioners.

These directives were issued following a comprehensive briefing at the State House by the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, who updated the President on recent developments and planned reforms in the pension sector.

President Tinubu specifically mandated PenCom to urgently resolve the long-standing issue surrounding the police pension scheme. “Those who serve and protect our nation deserve to retire with dignity and peace of mind,” he said.

In response to growing economic challenges, the PenCom DG informed the President of strategies being implemented to preserve the value of pension assets amid inflation and other macroeconomic pressures. She also revealed plans to allow foreign currency contributions, which would enable Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the national pension system.

President Tinubu expressed strong support for these initiatives, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and the protection of vulnerable citizens.

According to a statement signed by the Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the suite of reforms is part of the government\'s broader agenda to enhance the welfare of retirees and extend the reach of the pension system to underserved populations.
