Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday as a horrific road crash along the Lambatta-Lapai road claimed the lives of twenty-two men and left twenty others with varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses say the accident occurred at about 3:40 AM, involving a lorry loaded with passengers and goods traveling from Kano to Lagos. Reports suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to fatigue and the poor condition of the road, before the truck veered off and crashed.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Aisha Saadu, confirmed the incident, describing the scale of casualties as “devastating.” She cautioned drivers and transport companies against night travel, stressing the need to ensure vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long journeys.
Commander Saadu also reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to working with stakeholders to reduce the alarming rate of road accidents on Nigerian highways.
