Veteran Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has denied claims by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that he violated boarding procedures at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The controversy emerged earlier this week after FAAN alleged that the 68-year-old singer attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos on Monday with an “unidentified liquid substance.” According to the agency, Ayinde allegedly ignored warnings from aviation security and the flight captain, reportedly spilling alcohol on staff during an altercation over a flask in his possession.
The incident, which FAAN described as “disorderly conduct,” reportedly led to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots, according to reports by TheCable on Wednesday.
However, in a strongly worded rebuttal issued by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, Ayinde dismissed the allegations as “exaggerated and misleading.”
“At no point did K1 act in a manner that endangered lives or breached aviation safety regulations,” the statement said. “The substance in question was simply plain drinking water, handed to him at the airport lounge.”
The statement further explained that the singer made efforts to clarify the situation respectfully, but it was allegedly “needlessly escalated” by airport officials.
KWAM 1 insisted that he fully complied with airport security protocols and that claims of obstructing the aircraft or disrupting operations were “completely unfounded.”
“K1 is a globally respected figure who travels frequently and understands aviation protocols,” his team stated. “Had he truly behaved inappropriately, the Head of Airport Security and officials from FAAN, NCAA, and ValueJet would not have reached out personally to apologise or offer to fly him privately to Lagos — an offer he ultimately declined.”
In a surprising twist, the statement accused one of the suspended ValueJet pilots of \"deflecting blame\" following the incident, calling the pilot\'s decision-making “hasty, irrational, and dangerous.”
“Her actions not only misrepresented the situation but endangered lives,” the statement claimed, alleging the pilot failed to maintain professional standards during the confrontation.
The singer also emphasized that only he and his personal assistant were involved in the incident and that several passengers who witnessed the exchange encouraged him to remain calm.
While maintaining his innocence, KWAM 1 urged the media and public to “avoid sensationalism” and allow facts to prevail. He reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure the matter is resolved appropriately.
“K1 remains a law-abiding citizen and will continue to engage responsibly with all stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
