The Delta State Police Command has scored major victories in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, arresting suspected armed robbers, recovering a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK, and seizing a cache of dangerous weapons in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the operations—carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda—also led to the recovery of motorcycles, electronics, and other valuables linked to recent robbery cases.
On August 5, officers of B Division, Asaba, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (Reg. No. NZM 10 AP) at a parking lot on Former Deputy Road. The suspect, Chinedu Eze, was arrested while allegedly attempting to sell the vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer. Investigations revealed that the SUV had been snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 in Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the rightful owner was shot.
In another incident on August 4, a distress call alerted Ogwashi-Ukwu Police to an armed robbery along Chelsea Street. The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Okoyomon Israel, swiftly mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilantes to the scene. Two suspects—22-year-old Thywill Selvin of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and 32-year-old Guntim Bako of Kwale Junction—were arrested after a chase.
●Recovered items included:
●One pump action rifle with one live cartridge
●One Beretta pistol with six live rounds
●Three live assault rifle ammunition
●Two stolen motorcycles (Daylong REG NO: SAP 369 VK and Qlink REG NO: URM 750 QV)
25 mobile phones, four laptops, one tablet, one PlayStation 4 console, a home theatre set, music players, bags of clothing, and other valuables.
Commissioner Abaniwonda praised the swift action of the officers and credited public intelligence for the success of the operations. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly to help prevent crime.
“These arrests send a strong message to criminal elements in Delta State—there is no hiding place,” the CP said.
