An eyewitness has given a new account of the events surrounding the controversial incident involving Miss Comfort Emmanson, who was recently banned by Ibom Air and remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Facility for allegedly assaulting airline and airport officials.
Speaking via his social media handle, Tunde A. Ibrahim, who was on board the Uyo–Lagos flight of August 10, 2025, claimed the disagreement began over whether Emmanson’s phone was switched off before take-off. According to him, the passenger told crew members her device was already in flight mode, but the dispute persisted.
He alleged that after landing in Lagos, crew members refused to let Emmanson disembark, stating that airport security had been called to apprehend her. “In fact, they pushed the lady back onto her seat for many of us to pass,” Ibrahim said.
Ibom Air had earlier stated that the confrontation escalated into violent assaults on crew members, an attempt to remove a fire extinguisher from the aircraft, and attacks on security personnel. The airline reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for conduct endangering passengers, crew, or aircraft.
Following her arrest, Emmanson was charged to court and remanded at Kirikiri, with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority vowing stricter enforcement against unruly passengers.
