Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stated that under the 1999 Constitution, every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement — including the right to board a plane and fly to any destination of their choice.

According to Adeyanju, neither airlines nor airport authorities have the legal power to impose flight bans on any Nigerian. “Whoever is banned from flying by air within or outside Nigeria should sue the airline and claim damages,” he said.

His remarks come in the wake of the widely reported case of Miss Comfort Emmanson, who was permanently banned by Ibom Air after a confrontation with crew members on an Uyo–Lagos flight, as earlier reported via this platform.

The incident, which escalated into alleged assaults on airline and airport officials, led to Emmanson’s arrest, prosecution, and remand at Kirikiri Correctional Facility. Ibom Air has since maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward conduct it deems to endanger passengers, crew, or aircraft.
