The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 Nigerians successfully completed online pre-registration within just seven hours of opening its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to a statement signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the registration portal went live at 8:30 a.m., and by 3:30 p.m., tens of thousands of citizens had already pre-registered.
Of the total figure, 33,803 registrants (48.7%) are male, while 35,573 (51.3%) are female. Youths between the ages of 18 and 34 constituted the majority, with 48,033 applicants representing 69.2% of the total.
The online registration portal — https://cvr.inecnigeria.org — will remain open 24 hours daily. In addition, in-person registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at INEC’s 811 State and Local Government offices across the country. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays only.
Olumekun explained that the in-person exercise would cater to those who prefer physical registration and also allow online pre-registrants to complete their process. Both online and physical registration will run concurrently throughout the CVR period.
He further disclosed that beginning next week, INEC will provide weekly updates on the registration exercise, giving a detailed breakdown by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status.
The Commission emphasized that registration is strictly for Nigerian citizens who are at least 18 years old and who have not registered before. While double or multiple registration is prohibited by law, transfers of voting location and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards will be allowed during the exercise.
