The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny, aged 44.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area, where the victim was allegedly macheted to death by the suspect during a violent altercation.

After the attack, the suspect fled Rivers State and went into hiding in Egbeta village, Edo State, from where he reportedly continued issuing threats to the victim’s family members, boasting that he could harm them without consequence.

The family of the deceased lodged a formal complaint with the Police, prompting the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, to assign the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU). Acting on technical intelligence, operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout in Edo and effected his arrest on August 15, 2025.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and provided investigators with details of the incident. He is currently undergoing further profiling to determine possible links to other violent crimes.

The Commissioner of Police commended the diligence of the AKU operatives, stressing that Rivers State will never serve as a safe haven for criminals. “Perpetrators of heinous crimes must desist, as the long arm of the law will always catch up with them and they will face the full wrath of justice,” CP Adepoju warned.

The suspect will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
