The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has chosen not to respond to the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Alaafin of Oyo demanding the revocation of the \"Okanlomo of Yorubaland\" chieftaincy title recently conferred on Ibadan businessman, Dotun Sanusi.
The Alaafin, in a statement on Monday, had insisted that the title was irregular and ordered its withdrawal within two days.
However, on Tuesday, Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, announced that the monarch would not dignify the ultimatum with a response. In a Facebook post, Olafare described the Alaafin’s demand as an “empty threat,” adding that the Ooni prefers to focus on unity rather than divisive narratives.
“My Principal has directed me against issuing a Press Release on the empty threat of the Alawada Babasala,” Olafare wrote. “We cannot dignify the undignifyable with an official response. We leave the matter to the public court of opinion where it is already being treated. Let’s rather focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us. No press release, please. 48 hours my foot!!!”
The development has further heightened public interest in the ongoing tussle between the two prominent Yoruba monarchs.
