Youths of Nkpolu community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area led by Comrade Owhonda Chamberlain has flogged a serving police officer over alleged drug abuse.
The officer, identified as Joshua Eyam, attached to the Woji Police Division, was reportedly caught engaging in the abuse of mkpuru mmiri (methamphetamine) within the community. Angered by the development, the youths who had launched a campaign against drug abusd in the community descended on him and two other accomplice caught in the act, flogging them publicly
Eyewitnesses say the action of the youths followed growing concerns over the rising use of hard drugs, particularly mkpuru mmiri, which has fueled criminal activities Nkpolu community.
As at the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command is yet to issue an official response to the incident or comment on the conduct of the officer.
The Nkpolu incident has since stirred debate across social media, with many condemning the policeman’s alleged involvement in drug abuse, while others raised questions about mob actions against security operatives.
