Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, have recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of loose cannabis sativa weighing 112 kilograms following a road traffic collision along the Zaria–Kano Road near Gadar Tamburawa.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, when a Volkswagen Golf collided with a truck. NDLEA patrol officers, who heard the crash, rushed to the scene to render first aid. They extricated the two occupants of the Golf by breaking the windscreen and forcing open the doors.
According to the agency, the passenger attempted to flee after being pulled out but was apprehended on the spot. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the large consignment of cannabis.
Investigators said the driver, who sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention, admitted he was acting on behalf of the consignor and had made similar drug deliveries within and outside Kano in the past. He also confessed to using one-way routes to evade NDLEA checkpoints. The truck driver involved in the accident reportedly sustained a fracture.
In a statement, the Kano State Commander, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, emphasized that the case involves both reckless driving and drug trafficking. He reaffirmed NDLEA’s resolve to pursue and prosecute traffickers while urging the public to report suspicious movements of illicit substances.
The Command commended the professionalism of its officers during the rescue and seizure, crediting the successes to the leadership of NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.), whose reforms and training initiatives have bolstered operational effectiveness across the agency.
