Celebrity chef Hilda Baci is once again turning heads. On Friday, September 12, 2025, she will launch her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice an event that combines culinary spectacle, community service, culture, and possibly a new world record.
Here’s a full breakdown of what’s known so far:
Key Partners & Sponsorship
The event is sponsored by GBFoods Nigeria, via their flagship brand Gino.
Gino is providing support in terms of resources, including tomato paste and other major ingredients.
The pot for cooking (22,619 litre capacity) was custom-fabricated in Gbagada and transported to the venue under careful supervision.
Venue & Attendance
The cooking will take place at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, specifically in Eko Hotel Car Park B.
Originally planned for Muri Okunola Park, the venue was changed because over 20,000 people registered to attend; the original park was too small to accommodate the crowd.
Attendance is free, both for being there and for the jollof rice that will be served.
The Pot & Scale of the Attempt
The massive cooking pot measures 6 metres in diameter, about 1.1 metres high at the edge and 1.3 metres deep at the centre, with a capacity of ~22,619 litres.
Hilda plans to use 250 bags of rice for the cook-off.
Ingredients will include large quantities of pepper, onions, fresh tomatoes, gallons of vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato purée (and likely tomato pastes from Gino), among others. All set to be handled by a large team.
\r\nWhat’s at Stake & Purpose
Hilda is aiming for a Guinness World Record for the largest pot of jollof rice.
\r\nMore than just a record attempt, the event is framed as a celebration of Nigerian culture, identity, and togetherness — jollof rice being a dish dear to many across West Africa.
\r\nFood from the event will be shared with attendees and also donated to charitable causes. \r\n
