Nigerian music star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has been accused of instigating the arrest of an interior decorator, Ms. Amaka Obasi, following a dispute over a design contract. According to documents, Amaka claimed that after signing a Design Services Agreement with Rema in April 2025, he added new requests including the construction of a studio. She alleged that despite completing the work and additional projects, Rema refused to pay her fees.
On August 30, 2025, Amaka was allegedly lured to a reconciliation meeting but was instead arrested by officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos. Reports claim the officers demanded ₦7 million for her release before eventually collecting ₦1.1 million through a proxy account. Despite this, she was later re-arrested and accused of jumping bail, even after her lawyer provided letters citing her ill health and medical treatment.
Amaka has now filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Lagos, seeking a declaration that the dispute is civil in nature, an injunction against further police harassment, a refund of ₦1.1 million allegedly collected as bail, ₦50 million in damages, and ₦5 million in legal costs. Her family insists the matter is purely contractual and urged Rema to approach the courts instead of using the police. Neither the singer nor his management has released an official statement on the matter.\r\n
