The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it will no longer prosecute Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, over a viral video showing him brandishing a stun gun. The Command confirmed that Adefarasin voluntarily reported to its headquarters in Ikeja after the incident sparked public outrage, and that investigations revealed the object was indeed a stun gun, not a lethal firearm.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi explained that investigators interrogated the cleric and obtained a cautionary statement from him. The Command noted that since stun guns are classified differently under Nigerian law, there was no sufficient legal basis to pursue a criminal case. Consequently, it formally discontinued the matter.
The decision marks a reversal from the Command’s earlier stance, when Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had stated that Adefarasin’s actions constituted an offence. At the time, the police described stun guns as prohibited anti-riot equipment and promised to prosecute. However, with the latest position, the case against Pastor Adefarasin has now been dropped.\r\n
