ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu Killed in Abuja Armed Robbery

Tragedy has struck the ARISE News family following the death of one of its rising journalists, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.

The 29-year-old news anchor, reporter, and producer, fondly known as Sommie, was killed in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja. The incident is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.

Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu was more than a familiar face on screen. A lawyer by training, she was admired by colleagues for her professionalism, dedication, and warmth, while endearing herself to viewers with her engaging presence.

In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of management, ARISE News described her as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers”, adding that her passing leaves the organization in shock.

The management and staff of ARISE extended condolences to her parents, siblings, friends, and loved ones, while calling for a speedy investigation and prosecution of the culprits.
