The Nigerian Army has debunked reports alleging that soldiers unlawfully arrested a student of Taraba State University, Mr. Yebsonya Gamboro.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 6 Brigade clarified that Gamboro was not among the students earlier questioned for wearing military camouflage during a campus event on October 10, 2025.
The Army explained that the student was later involved in an altercation with a serving personnel and fellow student, during which a mobile phone went missing. He was subsequently presented to the Brigade for questioning, released the next morning, and handed over to university security for further investigation.
The Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and lawful conduct, warning that wearing military uniforms without authorization remains a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
